Olympic Torch Comes To Ballymena

A young Ballymena player who has done remarkable work raising funds for the Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children carried the Olympic Torch on the recent tour of Ireland. He took time out to bring the torch to his home club.

Tyler McIntyre and his dad William brought the torch to Ballymena RFC where they were photographed with Tom Wiggins, the club’s director of Community Rugby.

Tom was delighted to welcome the torch and Tyler to the club. Tyler was one of the torch bearers in Ballymena.

He was selected to carry the torch because of the remarkable work both he and his family have undertaken for the Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children.

Tom said: “Tyler played for our Under-15 side two seasons ago, however he wasn’t able to play last season but we are delighted he intends to return either as a player or in a support capacity this season.

“It was great to see Tyler proudly carrying the torch through the town and we are very proud as a club that he wanted to bring the torch out to the park.

“Our youth section, given our association with Tyler and his family, have adopted the NI Cancer Fund for Children as our chosen charity and we aim to raise money for the charity through several events in the forthcoming season.”
