The Irish Rugby Football Union is pleased to announce that Munster and Ireland forward Donnacha Ryan has signed a new IRFU contract to remain with Munster until the end of the 2013/14 season.
Donnacha Ryan started his rugby career with Nenagh Ormond and was schooled in St. Munchin’s College in Limerick where he was part of the side that won the Munster Schools Senior Cup in 2002.
The Tipperary native went on to represent Ireland at Under-18 Youths and Under-21 level and then joined Shannon. He won an Ulster Bank League title with the Limerick club in the 2005/06 season.
He made his senior debut for Munster against the Ospreys the season before that and has gone on to make 99 appearances for his home province.
He won his first Ireland ‘A’ cap in 2008 and made his international debut against Argentina at Croke Park in November 2008 and has gone on to win 17 caps in total since then.
He was selected for the 2011 Rugby World Cup squad with his most recent cap being won when he made his first RBS 6 Nations Championship start against Scotland last weekend.
Ryan helped Munster win the 2010/11 Magners League, and was also part of the Munster squad that won the 2008 Heineken Cup and the 2008/09 Magners League.
