IRB Notice: Alleged Internet Fraud

The International Rugby Board (IRB) have issued a warning over an ongoing potential fraudulent email aimed at rugby players and sporting organisations. Please read the notice and take due care in responding to any unsolicited emails of this nature.

It has come to the attention of the IRB and the IRFU that a person or persons have been operating an internet scam targeted at rugby players and coaches seeking positions abroad.

The scam involves players and coaches being sent emails requesting the payment of a sum of money in respect of visas and playing licences at rugby clubs and/or academies which do not exist or are being misrepresented.

Police in various countries have been alerted.

The IRB would urge all players and coaches to verify the bona fides of clubs and/or academies prior to applying for positions and to exercise caution if requested to transfer money in such circumstances.
