Irish Rugby Launches On Facebook

Irish Rugby has today launched a brand new Facebook page with a a fantastic opportunity to win a trip to Twickenham to watch Ireland play England. Like us on Facebook and you can enter the competition today.

The IRFU has led the way in social media with over 60,000 followers on Twitter and now we have launched a brand new Facebook page.

To celebrate the launch we are running a competition to win a day trip to Twickenham with the Irish Rugby Supporters Club on St. Patrick’s Day for the England v Ireland clash in the RBS 6 Nations.

Irish Rugby on Facebook will engage with rugby supporters, rugby clubs and our family of sponsors to give followers another avenue of communication and a chance to express their support for club, province and country.

The IRFU Twitter page proved hugely popular during the 2011 Rugby World Cup with plenty of fan engagement and insights into life in the Ireland camp. In fact it was the first of the countries at the RWC to break 50,000 followers on Twitter.

The new Facebook page will expand on that interaction to bring Irish rugby to an even wider audience.

Speaking about the new Facebook page, IRFU Commercial and Marketing Director Padraig Power said: “Social media is a very important part of our engagement with players, clubs, supporters and all the stakeholders in Irish rugby.

“Our Twitter feed is the most popular in the Six Nations and we hope to mirror that success with our new Facebook page.

“Our supporters want to engage with us there and it offers our sponsors another channel of communication so it is a perfect fit for us.

“We now have an Irish Rugby App for all smart phones, a mobile internet site, our Twitter feed, a new YouYube channel and the Facebook page complements our website to offer Irish rugby fans the complete online experience.”
