Girls Tag Thriving In Galwegians

Girls rugby is thriving at Galwegians RFC with Tag and girls youth rugby going from strength to strength at the moment.

The number of girls playing Tag rugby at Galwegians RFC has more than doubled in three weeks, with more than 20 girls taking part.

Wendy Hickey, WCRO for Connacht, is delighted with the uptake. “I am thrilled with the response the girls’ Tag rugby has gotten over the past few weeks,” she said.

“The girls absolutely love it, and I am hoping more will join next Saturday. The girls also got to meet Ireland International Carol Staunton who came to train the girls on the day.

“The session is only an hour and is all game-based, so the girls learn the basics and develop their skills through a variety of fun games and activities.”

Training takes place on Saturday mornings for girls aged 6-12 from 10am to 11am. If you have any queries, please contact wendy@cbirfu.com.

Girls rugby has grown from strength to strength over the past number of years, with more and more clubs offering the chance for girls to take up the sport.

Galwegians RFC are starting rugby for girls aged 13-17 on Monday, October 17 from 6.30pm-7.45pm. All those interested can contact wendy@cbirfu.com.
