Ireland’s Alain Rolland has been selected to referee the upcoming Rugby World Cup semi-final between Wales and France at Eden Park in Auckland.
The International Rugby Board has announced the match officials for the 2011 Rugby World Cup semi-finals.
IRFU international referee Alain Rolland, who took charge of the 2007 World Cup final, will whistle the Wales v France clash in Auckland next Saturday (October 15).
The vastly-experienced Rolland has refereed 13 World Cup matches over his career. That is a tournament record shared by Jonathan Kaplan of South Africa.
Meanwhile, Kaplan’s countryman Craig Joubert will preside over the Australia v New Zealand encounter at the same venue next Sunday (October 16).
Rolland will be joined by assistant referees Jonathan Kaplan (South Africa) and Wayne Barnes (England), while Nigel Owens (Wales) and Romain Poite (France) will support Joubert as assistant referees.
The appointments were made by the IRB’s Match Official Selection Committee in Auckland on Monday following a thorough review of quarter-final performances.
The appointments for the final and bronze final will be made on Monday October 17.
