The Ulster Bank League kicks off in style this weekend with the first ever club match to be played at the Aviva Stadium. Wanderers will entertain Nenagh Ormond on this historic day for Irish club rugby.
There will be another league milestone just a few weeks later when Lansdowne play their first ever game at the iconic home of Irish rugby, entertaining defending champions Old Belvedere in a ‘Friday Night Lights’ clash that is sure to attract a big crowd.
In another exciting move for the Ulster Bank League, both games will be streamed live on www.IrishRugby.ie.
Last season saw Irish Rugby TV providing edited highlights of some key games throughout the league. This season there will be even more coverage of games and a number of live streams including the two games at the Aviva Stadium.
In addition to match highlights, IrishRugby.ie will carry weekly previews and match reports from the Ulster Bank League for what promises to be an exciting season.
The new structures in place for Division 1A and Division 1B and the competitive nature of games across all four divisions have resulted in some vintage club rugby in recent seasons, and the competition is going from strength to strength this year.
Speaking at the launch of the league this week, IRFU Domestic Game Manager Scott Walker said: “We are delighted to have the first ever club games on the main pitch at the Aviva Stadium and it is great way to kick off the league.
“The Ulster Bank League was highly competitive last season and we hope to see more of the same with big crowds watching some great club rugby.”
Ellvena Graham, Chief Operating Officer of Ulster Bank, said: “We are really looking forward to our first full season of the Ulster Bank League. This season is all set to be an eventful and exciting one.
“Once again, we will be engaging with clubs through our Ulster Bank RugbyForce programme which helps communities improve their local grounds.”
