After years of preparation and anticipation, Ireland’s Rugby World Cup campaign begins this weekend with the game against the USA in New Plymouth.

Ireland are an almost unbackable 1/200 in the Match Betting, but the option of taking Ireland -33 points at Evens on the handicap is far more appealing.

Former Ireland head coach Eddie O’Sullivan takes charge of the Eagles and his inside knowledge of the Ireland camp will certainly aid the chances of the minnows putting in a strong showing.

The emotion associated with the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks will also provide the Americans with added motivation to acquit themselves well, but stepping back from the sentiment, it is still a game Ireland are expected to win.

In three of the last four meetings between the sides, Ireland have had at least 45 points to spare over the US. The Eagles have improved markedly over the course of the rivalry, however, and a reproduction of a similar margin cannot be taken for granted.

The Alternative Winning Margin is another option that widens the goalposts.

The Tryscorer Betting is worth taking a look at. Tommy Bowe marked his international debut by touching down against the Eagles way back in 2004 and since then has gone on to become one of Ireland’s main attacking threats. He is 15/2 to enjoy further success against the USA.
