Queen’s Crowned IRFU Club Sevens Champions In Ulster

Queens’s University were today crowned the inaugural IRFU Ulster Club Sevens champions. The students beat a game City of Derry side in the first ever Ulster final and have booked their place in the All-Ireland Club Sevens finals in two weeks’ time.

Queen’s University will go down in history as the first team to win the Ulster Club Sevens Championship.

The students beat City of Derry on a scoreline of 31-19 in the final at Deramore Park this afternoon. The Belfast youngsters were one of the pre-tournament favourites on the basis that Sevens rugby suits their style of play.

Both sides now qualify for the All-Ireland Club Sevens finals which take place in St. Mary’s College RFC on Saturday, May 21.

In the plate final, newly-crowned Ulster Bank League Division 2 winners Ballynahinch (see below) capped a very good season with a win over Instonians.
