What Are The Odds?

The Millennium Trophy is the only silverware at stake for Ireland on Saturday but of all the non-glistening prizes on offer in the Six Nations Championship, denying the Sweet Chariot a Grand Slam must be the most important to the Irish. Paddy Power gives us the odds!

Martin Johnson’s much-improved England side come to the Aviva Stadium looking for the win that would announce their re-emergence as one of the world’s top teams.

The prospect of denying their oldest rivals a clean sweep should be enough to focus Irish minds for one more effort before the end of the Championship for another year.

It’s not a shock to see Paddy Power, the official bookmakers of the IRFU, price England up as favourites, but the tasty odds available on Saturday’s hosts may be a surprise. Ireland are 13/8 to win the match and that’s something they’ve achieved on all of England’s visits since 2003.

This version of England are undoubtedly stronger and more dangerous than most of the teams to have made the trip, but it’s still a tempting price. They’re also available at 10/11 +4 points on the handicap, which will undoubtedly appeal to plenty.

Priding themselves on always offering value to the customer, Paddy Power are offering a remarkable Money-Back Special on the match.

If Ireland win the match, Paddy Power will refund all losing try scorer bets. That’s on top of an extraordinary gesture from the bookmaker last weekend.

After the ‘try that wasn’t’ in Cardiff, Paddy Power refunded all losing single outright and handicap bets placed on the game with Wales – including bets placed in running.

With Ireland showing flashes of class, it was a huge decision and at least backers of Declan Kidney’s men weren’t left out of pocket.

It’ll take a big effort to deny England, but there’s enough talent within the ranks both to stifle England’s new found creativity and present an attacking threat all of their own.

Tommy Bowe showed glimpses of his flair in Cardiff and scored twice in last year’s meeting with England. Bowe is 9/1 to score the first try of the match on Saturday and hopefully play a major part in derailing the Sweet Chariot.

This Week’s Money Back Special:

If Ireland beat England, Paddy Power will refund all losing try scorer bets on the match.
