O’Leary Ruled Out With Eye Injury

Ireland scrum half Tomas O’Leary suffered an eye injury during an early afternoon fitness session which will rule him out of consideration for the RBS 6 Nations clash with England this Saturday.

Tomas O’Leary trained this morning at the RDS as he continued his return from a back injury that had kept him out of Ireland’s last two games in the RBS 6 Nations.

But early this afternoon, when he was undergoing speed training with a sled, one of the straps failed, recoiled and struck him in the left eye.

This caused a bleed within the eye which affected his vision. The bleeding has now stabilised and following an ophthalmology review it is anticipated that this will continue to improve.

The situation will be reviewed on Friday. The current estimation is that O’Leary will be out of training for at least two to three weeks while the condition settles.
