Rush National School Complete ‘Play Rugby’ Programme

Rush National School recently completed a five-week ‘Play Rugby’ programme, which was delivered by Leinster Community Rugby Officer (CRO) Christian Stemmet.

The five weeks included fun and safe activities to better develop the rugby skills required in line with the IRFU’s Long Term Player Development (LTPD) pathway.

Special focus was put on general movement skills, team work and fun games. In total, 184 students from Rush National School participated and thoroughly enjoyed their rugby experience.

The school will be taking part in a local blitz to be held at Skerries RFC this month.

Grainne Hughes of Rush National School said: “The children loved the rugby session and a great awareness of rugby has now been created and a close relationship with Skerries RFC.”

If your school would like to get involved with the Play Rugby programme, please contact your local Community Rugby Officer through your provincial branch.

The IRFU’s Play Rugby programme and website were launched earlier this season as a resource for schools, clubs and parents.

The website includes video examples of games, certificate downloads and a guide to the ethos of the game of rugby. It is a great resources for coaches and teachers.
