Griffin And McKeon Added To Connacht Squad

The Connacht squad trained at the Sportsground on Thursday ahead of their Magners League derby match against Leinster at the RDS on Saturday (kick-off 5.30pm).

The squad session saw Brett Wilkinson return to training after sustaining a shoulder injury against Harlequins recently. The prop’s progress will be monitored in the lead-up to the game.

Academy graduates Eoin McKeon (19) and Eoin Griffin (20) also trained with the squad as Connacht’s head coach Eric Elwood ponders his options ahead of Saturday’s interprovincial derby in Dublin.

Back rower McKeon played in Connacht’s memorable friendly win over Samoa in November, but has yet to feature at Magners League level.

Ireland Under-20 international Griffin has played four times in the league, and scored a try from inside centre against the Scarlets last season.

Tries from Isa Nacewa and Dominic Ryan helped Leinster run out 18-6 victors when the two provinces met at the Sportsground in October, but Connacht have finished their last four league games within a score of the opposition.

CONNACHT Squad (v Leinster) – Backs (13): Frank Murphy, Cillian Willis, Ian Keatley, Miah Nikora, Keith Matthews, Brian Tuohy, Niva Ta’auso, Eoin Griffin, Fionn Carr, Troy Nathan, Darragh Fanning, Aidan Wynne, Gavin Duffy.
