Sportsground Pitch Passes Inspection

Fans hoping to travel to the Connacht v Munster Magners League derby match on St. Stephen’s Day can rest easy as the playing surface at the Sportsground passed an inspection today.

There were doubts as to the pitch’s playability after the severe cold in Galway during the week, but the steps the Connacht Branch and ground staff have taken to protect the surface seem to have paid off.

The 80 bales of straw that protected the pitch before the Harlequins match were relaid on Saturday morning and will remain on the surface until the morning of the game when a small army of volunteers will help clear the debris.
