Garryowen’s All-Weather Pitch Ready For Action

The wintry weather may have postponed the vast majority of rugby matches scheduled to take place over the weekend, but Garryowen FC’s excellent all-weather pitch will allow them to host two games today.

Garryowen FC officials have informed us that the All-Ireland League Under-21 game between Garryowen and Old Crescent will proceed as scheduled today, on the all-weather pitch at Dooradoyle (kick-off 12.30pm).

The same facility will host the Gleeson League encounter between Garryowen and UL Bohemians (kick-off 2.30pm).

The value of a 3G pitch to a rugby club is very evident during a cold snap such as this. Garryowen’s all-weather pitch was officially opened by then IRFU President, John Callaghan, and club captain Conan Doyle last April.

Garryowen’s pitch is both IRB and FIFA approved and is suitable for all sports including rugby, GAA, soccer, hockey, Tag rugby and team training.

Altogether, the facility includes one full-size pitch, four smaller pitches, floodlighting, dressing rooms, meeting rooms and team video analysis equipment. It is open from 10am to 10pm and offers free car parking.

Undoubtedly, Garryowen’s founding fathers may have wished for such a perfect pitch to play on when they helped set up the club all those years ago, but they will recognise the club spirit that has delivered such a wonderful facility to the members and to Limerick.
