Leinster Branch Ballymun Blitz A Real Success

The promotion of rugby at grassroots level continues apace through the provincial branches. The latest initiative in Leinster was a Ballymun Blitz which proved to be a big hit with the kids.

A Tag rugby blitz took place in Trinity Comprehensive School last week, consisting of 5th and 6th classes from local Ballymun primary schools.

Newly-appointed Leinster Community Rugby Officer Michael Murray has been working in the area for the past eight weeks coaching pupils from:

Holy Spirit Boys National School
St. Joseph’s National School
Our Lady of Victories Boys and Girls School
Virgin Mary Boys and Girls School
N.D.N.S.P

With approximately 200 children participating, a combined effort from coaches, teachers and volunteers it was a successful day for Ballymun’s community.

It is hoped that events like this will encourage the pupils to continue to participate in rugby out of school hours with the area’s local rugby team, Unidare RFC.
