Referee Appointments Made For November Internationals

The International Rugby Board has announced the match official appointments for the schedule of international matches to be played between October 30 and December 4 this year. Ireland’s opening Test at the Aviva Stadium against World champions South Africa will be refereed by Nigel Owens from Wales.

The appointments were made by the IRB Match Official Selection Committee at its meeting in Dublin last weekend after a comprehensive review of international referee, assistant referee and television match official performances during the June internationals and recent Tri Nations.

Ireland’s Alain Rolland will kick off the busy period of matches as New Zealand take on Australia in the fourth Bledisloe Cup match in Hong Kong on October 30.

The 2007 Rugby World Cup final referee will also take charge of the final match of the 2011 Rugby World Cup qualification process as Romania play host to Uruguay in Bucharest on November 27.

Nigel Owens will be in charge of the historic first rugby international at the Aviva Stadium when Ireland play host to World champions South Africa in the opening game in the GUINNESS Series.

Marius Jonker will be the man in the middle when Tri Nations champions New Zealand come calling two weeks later.

Irish referees feature strongly in the November international window, with Peter Fitzgibbon taking charge of the game between England and Samoa and George Clancy refereeing the England v South Africa encounter.

Alan Lewis will be at the Millennium Stadium for Wales against South Africa, while Simon McDowell has been named as sssistant referee for the Bledisloe Cup game, England v Australia and also the England v South Africa tie.
