Back To The Grindstone For Connacht’s Players

Connacht’s pre-season training started this week with a tough strongman session at the Sportsground.

Eric Elwood’s Connacht squad were put through their paces with a variety of different tests including log-carrying. tyre-lifting and fireman’s lifts as they prepare to face Harlequins and Saracens in friendly matches before the start of the Magners League campaign.

Head coach Elwood has added Mike Forshaw and Brian Melrose to his backroom team. Mike is a former Great Britian rugby league player and joins as Connacht’s new defence coach, while Brian will take on the role of backs coach.

Meanwhile, Connacht Rugby are looking to engage all supporters of Connacht in generating additional income to facilitate the improvement of their professional squad and Academy.

More importantly, the Connacht branch is looking to strengthen the relationship between the professional squad and the clubs of Connacht. The new Patrons Package initiative will go a long way to reaching these goals.

Each patron has the option of nominating a club in the province. The nominated club will receive a 20% commission of the cost of the package. This is a great way for the rugby-loving public in Connacht to support both their local club and their professional team.
