Munster Add Borlase To Squad

Munster have confirmed the signing of Kiwi prop Peter Borlase as they look to strengthen their squad for next season.

Peter Borlase is the second Southern Hemisphere front rower to ink a deal with Munster in recent weeks, following on from South African prop Wian du Preez’s decision to return to the province after a short stay this past season.

The Christchurch-born Borlase is a well-regarded tighthead prop in New Zealand rugby, and will join Munster on a two-year contract. The 6ft 3in, 18 stone front rower can also play at loosehead.

He will link up with Tony McGahan’s side once his involvement in the New Zealand Provincial Championship has concluded, and subject to the normal release procedures from Canterbury and the New Zealand Rugby Union.

Aged 25, Borlase made his Canterbury debut against South Canterbury in 2006 and has 20 provincial caps to his name, along with two Super Rugby appearances for the Crusaders.

Canterbury coach Rob Penney said: “It is a shame to have lost a player so young who has still to reach his potential, but opportunities to play at a club like Munster do not occur very often. We wish him well.”
