Wright Free To Play In Final

Stan Wright will be free to line out for Leinster in Saturday week’s Magners League grand final after escaping sanction for alleged punch during last weekend’s 16-6 semi-final win over Munster at the RDS.

The Irish Rugby Football Union Disciplinary Panel held a hearing on Wednesday to consider two citing complaints emanating from the Leinster v Munster Magners League semi-final at the RDS last Saturday.

The first complaint was against Munster number 8 Nick Williams, who was cited under law 10.4 (B) for an alleged stamp on Leinster out-half Jonathan Sexton in the 20th minute of the semi-final clash.

The second complaint was against Leinster prop Stan Wright, who was cited under law 10.4 (A) for an alleged punch on Munster flanker Alan Quinlan in the 25th minute of the game

The hearings took place in the Ulster Branch offices at Ravenhill. The IRFU panel consisted of Hugh Logan (chair) and he was assisted by Stephen Hilditch and Neil Jackson.

The panel decided that while in both incidents an act of foul play did take place and the citings were justified, each of the incidents did not warrant a red card, so no sanction was imposed.

Both players are free to play, with Wright available for Leinster’s grand final against the Ospreys. Williams, meanwhile, has been released by Munster following two seasons with the province.
