Ross Runs Marathon For Charitable Trust

Ross Deering, a 14-year-old pupil from Regent House School in Newtownards, ran this year’s Belfast City Marathon in aid of the IRFU Charitable Trust. Ironically, due to a wrong turn, what started out as the fun run for Ross, ended up in him completing the full 26.2 miles!

Ross Deering, a keen runner who belongs to Regent House Athletics Club, had signed up to take part in the three-mile fun run race along with his cousin, Daniel.

However, coming towards the end of his original run, he took a wrong turn and ended up in the pathway of the full marathon.

Always one to welcome a challenge, he phoned his mum, who was waiting at the finish line, to say he would give the full race a go.

Despite the fun run having started twenty minutes after the main marathon runners, Ross completed all 26.2 miles of the course in five hours and 16 minutes.

His father was running in the final two legs of the marathon and the whole family was very proud of Ross’ efforts and indeed the money he raised for the IRFU Charitable Trust.

Ross also plays rugby for Regent House, and following an injury earlier in the season which resulted in a short hospital stay, he decided he wanted to do something to raise money for those players who are not so fortunate in recovering from injury.

Well done to Ross on completing the 26.2 mile course and raising money for such a worthwhile cause.
