Lansdowne Boss Praises ‘Old Enemies’ Bruff

Lansdowne team manager Brian Corrigan was quick to acknowledge the challenge presented by Bruff as the Dublin club added the AIB League Division 2 title to promotion into Division 1B next season.

“Promotion was our main concern. At the same time, it is a competition and when you are in it you want to win it. You don’t just want to make up the numbers,” explained Lansdowne team manager Brian Corrigan, after his side’s 17-10 final victory over Bruff.

“We knew we had to be on our game for our old enemies Bruff. We knew they would give us a good test because we have come up against them at various levels at senior and age-grade levels in recent years.”

The newly-crowned champions looked to be moving away when they moved into a 17-5 lead in the 53rd minute. But, the Limerick club, famed for their battling qualities, do not know the meaning of defeat.

“Bruff never gave up. They never do. With 10 or 15 minutes remaining, at 17-10, anything could have happened. We just held on in the end,” added Corrigan.

“The fact is we have formed a good relationship with them. They epitomize all that is good about Munster rugby.

“We like to think we do the same for Leinster rugby. On this occasion, Leinster won out.”
