UL Bohs On Course For Women’s Double

It will be a case of deja vu at Dubarry Park on Saturday when the UL Bohemians and Blackrock Women’s sides square off for a second final in a matter of weeks. Last time out, the Limerick girls won the Women’s All-Ireland Cup, this weekend sees them go to head-to-head with their arch rivals in the final of league play-offs.

Dubarry Park in Athlone, the home of Buccaneers RFC, has seen many finals in recent years and supporters may well be rubbing their eyes this weekend when the Women from UL Bohemians and Blackrock face each other for a second final in a few weeks.

UL Bohs won the Women’s All-Ireland Cup in style recently with an impressive 36-0 win, making them odds-on favourites to take the Division 1 League title this weekend.

UL Bohs had a comfortable passage through to the league decider, beating Cooke 32-0, while Blackrock saw off Highfield on a 24-3 scoreline in the other semi-final.

The Division 2 final sees Old Belvedere facing City of Derry, whose men’s team secured a play-off against Portadown in the AIB League for next weekend. The ‘Belvo girls beat Tralee in their semi-final, while City of Derry came through strong against Youghal.

Cooke have some consolation in that they won the Women’s All-Ireland Plate, defeating Clonmel at the Cup finals bonaza a few weeks back. Tralee were also involved on that day as they took the Bowl title from Tipperary club Nenagh.

Finally, Young Munster won a tight Shield final against Thurles on an 8-3 scoreline

This Saturday’s League finals’ double header promises to be a great day of Women’s rugby action, so get down to Dubarry Park and catch these season-defining matches.
