Seapoint Qualify For AIB League

It was the biggest game in Seapoint’s 75-year history and they certainly delivered as a tremendous 33-7 win over Monivea booked the south Dublin club’s place in AIB League Division 3 for next season.

Seapoint secured a prized spot in the AIB League and senior status for the 2010/11 campaign with a fiercely determined display at the Castle Grounds.

Leading the Provincial League play-offs table after the opening two rounds, the Dubliners moved 16-7 ahead of Monivea at half-time courtesy of a late try from Stephen Verso.

Seamus Fahy set up Kevin Higgins for a try for the hosts but the Galway men were very much second best on the day, with Brian Keegan’s assured place-kicking also a key feature for Seapoint.

Two tries in the final quarter sealed it for the Leinster League champions who were roared on by the vocal away supporters.

Congratulations to everyone involved in the Seapoint set-up, including head coach Nigel Osbourne and forwards coach Declan Keegan, father of out-half Brian.

City of Derry, the AIB Junior Cup and Ulster League winners, coasted to a 55-3 win over Limerick side Richmond in the other final round game on Saturday.

The victory confirmed Bevan Lynch’s charges in second place in the final table. They will now face Ulster rivals Portadown in a promotion/relegation play-off to decide the 16th and final team to compete in AIB League Division 3 next term.
