Munster Quartet Set For Barbarians Duty

Ireland flanker Alan Quinlan and foreign stars Doug Howlett, Jean de Villiers and Paul Warwick have been named in the Barbarians squad for their upcoming summer tour which includes a mouth-watering fixture against Ireland at Thomond Park.

The Barbarians have confirmed the first tranche of players for the 2010 summer tour that begins with the MasterCard Trophy match against England at Twickenham on Sunday, May 30 and continues the following Friday (June 4) with another MasterCard Trophy match against Ireland at Thomond Park.

Munster fans will be delighted to learn that experienced flanker Alan Quinlan and his provincial colleagues, Doug Howlett, Jean de Villiers and Paul Warwick, have been included in the Baa Baas squad.

England’s Danny Cipriani and Paul Sackey and All Black duo Jerry Collins and Carl Hayman are also set to feature for the world famous invitational side this summer.

Barbarians President Micky Steele-Bodger said: “The game against England never fails to attract big name players to our team and this year we have the added bonus of a second major test against Ireland in Limerick.

“Such a demanding itinerary places the onus on us to assemble top quality individuals from around the world and, once again, we are encouraged by the readiness of such players to accept invitations to join us.

“More names will be announced after the teams involved in the various end-of-season competitions in Europe and the Super 14 finals in the southern Hemisphere are finalised.”

He added: “What I can also confirm at this stage is that the Barbarians squad will be coached by Philippe Saint-Andre, assisted by Kingsley Jones.

“Both were proud Barbarians in their playing days and have worked successfully together in recent years as coaches with Sale Sharks. We are delighted to have the opportunity to reunite them, also in a coaching capacity, for the Barbarians.”

Saint-Andre, now the director of rugby at Toulon, Connacht’s Amlin Challenge Cup semi-final opponents, played three times for the Barbarians in the 1990s, including the 1994 match against South Africa when he was a try-scorer in the famous 23-15 victory for the club.

Kingsley Jones represented the Barbarians twice on the 2000 summer tour.
