IRFU Make Donation To GOAL’s Haiti Appeal

The Irish Rugby Football Union has presented a cheque for ?50,000 to the Irish charity GOAL to aid the relief efforts of the recent Haiti earthquake disaster.

The donation from the IRFU was presented by IRFU President John Callaghan to GOAL Chief Executive John O’Shea at half-time during Saturday’s RBS 6 Nations game between Ireland and Italy at Croke Park.

Commenting on the presentation, John Callaghan said: “Nobody could fail to be touched by the pictures emanating from Haiti in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake.

“With the rescue effort now turning to much needed support for the survivors, the IRFU felt that this donation would reflect the feeling of the rugby community to the people of Haiti at this time to aid their recovery from the disaster.

“We hope that this donation will assist GOAL in their efforts in Haiti.”

GOAL’s John O’Shea said: “GOAL is deeply grateful to the IRFU for this magnificent donation. It will enable us to alleviate the suffering of some of the 250,000 inhabitants of Port-au-Prince who GOAL is supporting.”

For donations to help GOAL’s Haiti response, please contact GOAL at 12, Cumberland Street, Dun Laoghaire, Co. Dublin (tel: (01) 2809779) or click here.
