Connacht v Leinster Game Called Off

The Magners League interpro showdown between Connacht and Leinster has been postponed following a second pitch inspection at the Sportsground.

The pitch at the Sportsground, which has been covered since Thursday, was inspected at noon today and the green light was initially given for the Connacht v Leinster Magners League game to go ahead.

However, following a subsequent inspection by referee Peter Fitzgibbon and coaches Michael Bradley and Michael Cheika at 2pm, a decision was taken to call off the match.

The game will be re-fixed and tickets purchased for today’s game will be valid for the rescheduled match. In the region of 5,000 tickets had been sold for today’s postponed tie.

Meanwhile, with the Sportsground surface ruled unplayable, the AIB Junior Cup semi-final between Monivea and City of Derry, which had been rescheduled to take place at the Galway venue at 6.30pm, has also been postponed.
