Creggs Celebrate Their 35th Year

Creggs RFC recently hosted their 35th Anniversary Dinner at Donamon Castle in County Roscommon. The dinner was attended by the current Connacht Branch President Steve Cunningham, Chief Executive Gerry Kelly and Domestic Rugby Manager Martin Gallagher.

Creggs RFC President Liam Callaghan presided over the evening’s events and there were two special commemoration presentations to founding members and former Club and Branch Presidents, Joe Daly and Frank Petit, for their services to rugby.

Making the presentations, Connacht Rugby CEO Gerry Kelly said: “Joe Daly is a gentleman for whom I have great admiration, he is an outstanding servant of Creggs RFC and worked tirelessly for Connacht rugby.

“Frank Pettit was only the second President in the Branch from a junior club and the significance of his legacy is the development of the Connacht Youth (Age Grade) Programme. He was an outstanding person and I am delighted to be present to make these presentations.”

The guest speaker was Old Belvedere, Ireland and Lions great, Ollie Campbell, who spoke of the history of Creggs and the personalities that have kept it going.

He paid tribute to Ger Dowd and Sean Brandon for their coaching and preparations of the club squads over the seasons and wished the current club captain, Kevin Brandon, the very best while presenting him with a unique players’ tour pin from this year’s Lions tour to South Africa.

Former and current players, sponsors and friends of the Roscommon club gave superb support to the dinner.
