Flannery Set For Surgery

Jerry Flannery’s woeful run of luck with injuries in 2009 continues with the news that the Munster hooker will miss next Sunday’s Heineken Cup Pool 1 trip to Perpignan and the following weekend’s Magners League derby against Connacht at Thomond Park.

Tuesday will see Jerry Flannery have exploratory surgery on the Achilles injury that ruled him out of last Friday’s 24-23 Heineken Cup victory over Perpignan in Limerick.

Munster team manager Shaun Payne is not prepared to speculate on when the Ireland hooker may return to action.

“There has been a lot of speculation in the media over the weekend about this but realistically we have to wait until he has had the procedure before we can know for sure,” Payne admitted this morning.

Meanwhile, Munster report that all those involved last Friday night came through relatively unscathed and it is expected that head coach Tony McGahan will name a full strength squad – Flannery and Marcus Horan aside – for the trip to France next weekend.
