Cavan Coaches Brave Bad Weather For Coaching Course

Earlier this month, Cavan RFC played host to a two-day IRFU Ulster Branch Foundation coaching course (Stage 2 Long-Term Player Development).

32 coaches took part over the two days, and such was the commitment from the participants, that many of them even braved the severe flooding that surrounded Cavan RFC on the first day of the course.

The two-day course provided an introduction to the 15-a-side game for coaches and volunteers with limited experience in rugby.

The main focus was on safety and enjoyment, and it was geared towards those working with pre-teenage and adolescent players. The course aimed to develop the coach as a ‘teacher.’

The course was delivered by Ulster Branch development staff, and at the end of day two, course director Darryl Callaghan said: “Despite the heavy rain and floods on the first day of the course, all of those in attendance showed real commitment and enthusiasm to learning new skills and progressing with their coaching.

“The participants contributed a variety of skills and experience, and were active in their involvement from the outset.

“I would like to thank everyone who took part in the course and for making it a worthwhile experience for all, and also Cavan RFC for the use of their facilities.”
