Young Munster Overcome ‘Hinch Challenge

Young Munster put in their best performance of the league campaign to date, emerging as bonus point winners over a disappointing Ballynahinch side at Ballymacarn Park on Saturday afternoon.

AIB LEAGUE: DIVISION 1B: Saturday, October 31

BALLYNAHINCH 5 YOUNG MUNSTER 33, Ballymacarn Park

Scorers: Ballynahinch: Try: Stuart Morrow
Young Munster: Tries: Clem Casey, Neville Melbourne, Derek Corcoran, Aaron Carroll; Cons: Matthew Costelloe 2; Pen: Matthew Costelloe; Drops: Mike Prendergast 2

With top-scoring out-half Alan Kingsley out with an ankle injury, director of rugby Mike Prendergast and Munster scrum half Toby Morland pulled the strings for the Cookies at half-back.

Hooker and captain Ger Slattery, lock Darragh Payne and number 8 Neville Melbourne were also in storming form up front as Young Munster claimed their first win in three league games.

Ballynahinch had a mountain to climb at half-time, having leaked tries to centre Clem Casey and the industrious Melbourne.

21-0 down at that stage, all ‘Hinch could muster was an unconverted second half try from centre Stuart Morrow as they fell to their third defeat in Division 1B.

With Prendergast supplying two drop goals and centre Matthew Costelloe booting two conversions and a penalty, a prized bonus point was secured when wingers Derek Corcoran and Aaron Carroll sped through for further tries.
