IRFU Fitness Workshop A Great Success

As part of the IRFU Fitness Department’s ongoing Continued Professional Development programme for club and school coaches, this recent workshop was attended by over 60 coaches. The workshop was held at Buccaneers RFC on Monday, October 19.

Attending coaches showed great commitment to this Monday evening workshop, travelling from as far away as Dungarvan, Clifden, Dublin and Derry.

The workshop offered coaches from all levels the opportunity to increase their knowledge in the area of integrated conditioning and conditioned games.

The workshop contained an introduction to the theory of integrated conditioning and also introduced some of the methods used in integrated conditioning including: Multi Sprint Endurance, Conditioned Games, Rugby Specific Drills, Movement Skill Drills and Speed Endurance.

The presenters for the night were Des Ryan (Fitness Education Manager IRFU), Phillip Morrow (High Performance Fitness Manager IRFU) and Fergal O’Callaghan (Munster Academy and NTS Coach).

Special thanks must go to the Athlone IT rugby team who were put through the various drills on the night. Also thanks to Buccaneers who provided excellent facilities and Charlie Couper who provided help in organising the event.

This workshop is one of many workshops/conferences/courses that will be run each month over the 2009/10 season. The next workshop will be:

IRFU November Open Fitness Seminar

The IRFU, in conjunction with Setanta College, are delighted to announce that Dietmar Schmidtbleicher – arguably the world authority on strength and power development in sport – will be in Ireland on Saturday, November 14.
