Dungannon Open Win Account

Dungannon chalked up their maiden win in AIB League Division 1B, with tries from Glen Telford and Paul Magee guiding them to a 14-8 triumph over Young Munster at Stevenson Park.

DUNGANNON 14 YOUNG MUNSTER 8, Stevenson Park

Scorers: Dungannon: Tries: Glen Telford, Paul Magee; Cons: James Shiells 2
Young Munster: Try: Alan Kingsley; Pen: Alan Kingsley

Munsters dominated much of the first half. Their influential out-half Alan Kingsley missed a number of place kicks but was on the money with a penalty effort on the stroke of half-time, giving his side a 3-0 interval lead.

Yet Dungannon proved stronger over the closing half-hour. Replacement Glen Telford ran onto a 57th minute chip through from out-half James Shiells to register the first try, which Shiells converted.

In the second minute of injury-time, Young Munster broke back into an 8-7 lead when Kingsley intercepted an attempted clearance kick and sprinted through for a five-pointer in the corner.

‘Gannon, though, bounced back on 86 minutes when Paul Magee beat the Cookies’ defence on the short side and scooted in for a well-taken try, which Shiells again converted.
