Dolphin Floor Clontarf With Determined Comeback

Dolphin made it two wins on the bounce in AIB League Division 1A, launching a terrific second half fight back to deny hosts Clontarf at Castle Avenue.

AIB LEAGUE: DIVISION 1A: Saturday, October 10

CLONTARF 19 DOLPHIN 27, Castle Avenue

Scorers: Clontarf: Try: Michael Keating; Con: Martin Dufficy; Pens: Martin Dufficy 4
Dolphin: Tries: Barry Keeshan, Barry O’Mahony; Con: Barry Keeshan; Pens: Barry Keeshan 5

AIB club international out-half Barry Keeshan was again the hero for the Cork side, scoring a try, a conversion and five penalty goals in an assured display.

Beaten by St. Mary’s College last week, Clontarf showed their eagerness early on and built a 19-3 interval lead.

Underage internationals Michael Keating (try) and Martin Dufficy (four penalties and a conversion) did the scoring for the north Dubliners.

But Dolphin upped their game in the second half, forcing the issue through their pack and Keeshan kicked his side back into contention.

He landed three successive penalties to bring it back to 19-12 and then broke through for an unconverted try.

The Dolphin number 10 fired over his fifth penalty to nudge the visitors ahead and flanker Barry O’Mahony’s late converted try was the insurance score.
