Young Munster Secure Limerick Charity Cup

A penalty, three minutes from the end, by Alan Kingsley gave Young Munster their first Limerick Charity Cup final win for 13 years. They beat a more fancied UL Bohemians side 11-10 in Saturday’s decider at Thomond Park.

A Kingsley penalty had Young Munster 3-0 in front at the interval, but Fergal Lawlor landed a penalty to tie the game.

A well-taken try by Martin McPhail, converted by Ed Torrie, put UL ahead.

But a try by recent signing Aaron Carroll put Young Munster back in contention and Kingsley landed the crucial late penalty to give the Cookies a big boost ahead of their AIB League Division 1B opener at home to Buccaneers next Saturday.

Mike Prendergast’s side also notably beat Bruff and Shannon on the way to the Limerick Charity Cup decider.
