Flannery Makes Comeback With Shannon

Munster were given a boost on Saturday when international hooker Jerry Flannery returned to competitive action for his club Shannon.

As was widely reported, Jerry Flannery was forced to miss the Lions tour to South Africa due to an elbow injury which required two operations.

He also picked up a calf muscle injury in pre-season training, but encouragingly, he is close to a return for his provincial side.

As planned, the Limerick man played the first 40 minutes in Shannon’s 33-28 friendly win over Galwegians at the Limerick IT Grounds.

Flannery was ‘happy to be back playing’ and hopes to win back his place in the Munster side for their opening Heineken Cup game away to Northampton on Saturday, October 10.

Shannon, top flight champions last season, will open the new AIB League Division 1A campaign next Friday with a floodlit fixture away to fierce rivals Garryowen.
