Players Greet Young And Old At ‘Grand Slam’ Signings

There were orderly queues formed at Eason’s in Patrick Street, Cork and O’Connell Street, Limerick on Thursday as some of Ireland’s Six Nations-conquering heroes took part in the ‘Grand Slam’ book signings.

Paul O’Connell, Jerry Flannery and David Wallace were on hand to greet fans, sign books and pose for photos in Limerick, while the ‘little and large’ duo of Peter Stringer and Donncha O’Callaghan made it a special day for the fans on Leeside.

O’Callaghan is preparing to make his first appearance of the season for Munster this weekend, with a bench role for their Magners League clash with the Dragons at Musgrave Park on Sunday.

It will be the start of a busy few weeks for the Cork-born lock, with the renewal of rivalries with Leinster next week, the opening matches in the Heineken Cup and then some heavyweight encounters in the GUINNESS Series 2009 as the Grand Slam champions take on the might of the Southern Hemisphere.

Obviously eager to get back into the red of Munster and green of Ireland, O’Callaghan said: “I can’t wait to get back into it. I’m no use watching games. I just love to be playing.

“I understand the thinking in keeping us (internationals) out of it for the opening rounds of the Magners League. And it works to our benefit.

“It’s a long season what with internationals and that, but still I’d be in there from the start if I could.”
