A Sunshine Day For The Grand Slam

The weather may be bad of late but there was more than a little ‘Sunshine’ for Leinster and Ireland centre Gordon D’Arcy and the Grand Slam trophies earlier this week.

The Grand Slam trophies have been on tour throughout Ireland since they day after they were won in Cardiff in March.

To date they have visited clubs and schools the length and breadth of Ireland with Munster, Connacht and Ulster having completed their leg of the Grand Slam Trophy Tour.

The Leinster Branch begin their leg of the Grand Slam tour this week but just before they went on the road, the RBS 6 Nations trophy and Triple Crown made a very special stop in the Children’s Sunshine Home in Leopardstown.

Leinster and Ireland centre Gordon D’Arcy was delighted to attend the event with the trophies and to meet some of the parents, staff and most importantly the children who are cared for in this wonderful facility.

The Children’s Sunshine Home is not a sad place, it is a place for living.

It provides an opportunity to share concerns and worries with people who understand. It is a place of fun and laughter, enjoyment, love and support.

Work is due to start later this month on building Ireland’s first Children’s Hospice, LauraLynn House. This will allow them to extend their respite, residential and palliative services to children living with a life-limiting condition.

Speaking after the visit, Eimear from the Children’s Sunshine Home said: “Thank you and Gordon for taking the time to visit us on Tuesday along with the RBS 6 Nations trophy and Triple Crown.

“As you could tell, the visit generated a huge buzz amongst all the children, staff and parents. Thank you for helping us to put life into a children’s day, not days into a child’s life.”
