Williams To Miss London Irish Game

Munster back rower Nick Williams, who sustained a knee injury during last week’s win over Sale Sharks in Cork, has been ruled out of Friday’s pre-season friendly game against London Irish (Musgrave Park, kick-off 7pm).

The injury, however, is not as bad as it first seemed with Nick Williams expected to recover after a period of rest – although he will have further medical assessment later in the week.

This will be the second year in succession that Munster and London Irish play each other in a pre-season game.

It is also the second successive year they will compete for the Jack Wakefield Memorial Trophy to honour the memory of the three-year-old London Irish supporter Jack Wakefield whose inspirational battle against a brain tumour touched the hearts of people across the world.

He died on June 21, 2005.

In donating the memorial trophy, the supporters requested that it be contested every time that London Irish played an Irish province in a friendly match.
