Leinster Scrum Coaching Role For Corrigan

Leinster Rugby have announced the appointment of their former captain Reggie Corrigan as provincial scrum coach, as they look to maintain their commitment to developing specialised coaches.

A former captain of the province, Reggie Corrigan is rejoining Leinster in a coaching capacity after an illustrious playing career where he made 139 Leinster appearances (including 61 in the Heineken Cup) over 10 seasons.

The 38-year-old also guided the province to the Celtic League title in 2001.

The former loosehead prop represented Ireland on 47 occasions, making his debut against Canada in November 1997 and he was a key figure in helping Ireland lift the Triple Crown in 2004.

Commenting on his appointment, Corrigan said: “I’m absolutely delighted to be back involved with Leinster at what is an extremely exciting period for the province at all levels.

“There is an excellent batch of young forwards coming through the various underage levels and I see this role as a crucial means of developing the scrum across the province.

“My remit will be working with the Under-20s and the Academy and the various age grade groups in clubs and schools across the province.

“I hope this will lead to an improvement in the standard of scrummaging as well as enhancing the technical development of young props and, as a result, lead to a greater standard of safety for the players.”

Leinster’s Domestic Rugby Manager Philip Lawlor added: “Leinster Rugby are committed to developing specialised coaches and as a quality exponent of front row play with both Leinster and Ireland, Reggie will make a positive contribution to the existing underage coaching structures within the province.

“We are delighted with Reggie’s appointment and we believe that he will be a valuable resource for clubs and schools as well as in up-skilling coaches in the art of scrummaging across the province.”
