de Villiers To Join Munster After Tri Nations

Magners League champions Munster have received a pre-season boost with the news that South Africa centre Jean de Villiers will link up with the province in mid-September, having agreed contractual terms.

Munster today announced that Springbok centre Jean de Villiers and his representative have agreed terms that will see the 28-year-old join Munster at the conclusion of his involvement in the 2009 Tri Nations competition.

Munster CEO Garrett Fitzgerald confirmed that the South African Rugby Union are aware that the player intends to further his career outside of South Africa and it now only remains for his provincial side, Western Province, to agree to de Villiers’ request for an early release from his contract which is due to expire on October 31.

As per the signed agreement with the 2008 South African Player of the Year, he is expected to arrive in Munster ahead of the ERC registration date (September 17).

de Villiers is currently preparing to face New Zealand next Saturday in Bloemfontein in the Springboks’ opening game of the Tri Nations series.
