Overview Of Tag Finals Stages

As we approach the ‘business end’ of the regular Bud Light Tag season, here is a brief description of how finals are decided and scheduled.

There are various types of league structure across the many Bud Light Tag venues in Ireland. When the group stages reach their conclusions, the leagues determine who plays for what.

Below is an overview of various types of Leagues and what they yield when it comes to their relevant Finals Stage.

EXAMPLE ONE – 8 teams

Normal League of 8 teams play 7 weeks of group games then the top four of the league compete in Semi-Finals for the Cup while the bottom four compete in Semi-Finals for the Bowl. Winners play Finals the next week while Runners-Up play for final placings.

EXAMPLE TWO – 4 x 8 team Leagues of Same Grade

In this case, from each 8 team league, the top 2 teams of each league will compete for the CUP, 3rd and 4th from each league will compete for the BOWL, 5th and 6th for the PLATE and 7th and 8th for the SPOON

EXAMPLE THREE – 2 x 8 team Leagues of Same Grade

1st place in one group will play 4th place in the other, 2nd place will play 3rd place in Semi-Finals. This will contest the CUP. For the BOWL Semi-Finals, 5th will play 8th of the other group and 6th will play 7th.

EXAMPLE FOUR – 6 Team Leagues

Week 6 – Preliminary Ranking Round

Match A – League Rank 1 v League Rank 2 (Winner becomes Rank 1 for next round / Loser becomes Rank 2)
Match B – League Rank 3 v League Rank 5 – This ranking fixture has been randomly drawn
Match C – League Rank 4 v League Rank 6 – This ranking fixture has been randomly drawn
Week 7 – Quarter-Finals
Match D – Winner Match A v Loser Match C – Determines Rank 1 for Semi-Finals
Match E – Winner Match B v Loser Match A – Determines Rank 2 for Semi-Finals
Match F – Winner Match C v Loser Match B – Determines Rank 3 for Semi-Finals

(This round determines 3 x ranked winning teams and best ranked losing team – the remaining 2 x teams play a 2-game ‘series’ with aggregate determing the overall 5th and 6th places)

Week 8– Semi-Finals
Match G – Winner Match D v Best Ranked Losing Team from Week 7
Match H –  Winner Match E v Winner Match F
Match J – Rank 5 v Rank 6 – First leg of two-match aggregate games
Week 9 Finals)
SF1 – Winner Match G v Winner Match H
SF2 – Loser Match G v Loser Match H

Match K – Rank 5 v Rank 6 – Second leg of two-match aggregate games (Winner is team with most aggregate points)

In the event of a drawn game at full-time, 5 minutes of extra time is played. If still no score difference after 5 minutes, the team that scored the first try is declared winner. This applies to ALL play-off/Semi-Finals/Finals

To view your playoff games, you must select on your venue page the relevant competition you are playing in (ie. Cup/Bowl/Plate etc) from the drop-down menu above the Fixtures/Results section on the Venue Page.
