O’Mahony To Miss New Zealand Match

Ireland Under-20 captain Peter O’Mahony is set to miss his side’s second pool match against New Zealand on Tuesday, after picking up a one-match suspension for dangerous play during Ireland’s opening win of the IRB TOSHIBA Junior World Championship against Argentina.

Ireland’s number 8 and captain Peter O’Mahony attended an IRB TOSHIBA Junior World Championship disciplinary hearing in Nagoya today (Sunday) after being cited for dangerous play during his side’s 16-9 victory over Argentina on Friday.

Having considered all of the evidence, IRB Judicial Officer Hiroyuki Komyo (Japan) considered that O’Mahony’s trampling of an Argentina player was dangerous play and constituted a lower end offence warranting a two-week sanction.

However, as a result of mitigating factors, including an unblemished disciplinary record and genuine remorse, the Judicial Officer fixed the sanction at one match.

O’Mahony, who plays for Cork Constitution and Munster, will be able to line out for Ireland in their third pool game against Uruguay next Saturday (June 13).

The player has 48 hours to appeal the decision.
