Reid Begins Search For New Ulster Coach

Ulster Rugby have moved swiftly to begin the process to find a replacement for departed head coach Matt Williams, who stepped down from the position last night due to personal reasons.

Ulster Rugby CEO Michael Reid has commented on the process of appointing a new head coach for Ulster Rugby.

He said: “Following on from last night’s press release (by Matt Williams), Ulster Rugby would like to update our supporters in the process, from here on, regarding the appointment of a new Ulster head coach.

“The appointments committee; which includes representatives from the IRFU and Ulster Branch, have already met and agreed on the criteria for head coach, and the selection process.

“Already a number of CVs have been received, and by next week we should be in a position to commence interviews.

“Given that the candidates may be from various parts of the world, we can’t put a definite time frame on the appointment.”

Reid added: “Having spoken last night to the Ulster Rugby management team, Operations Director David Humphreys and I met with the management team this morning.

“David Humphreys will take interim control of all rugby matters, until the coaching appointment is made.

“It is expected that the new head coach will be appointed prior to pre-season training, which starts on June 15.”
