A Day To Remember For Grosvenor RFC

Belfast club Grosvenor enjoyed one of the best days in their 56-year history on Saturday when they scooped both the Forster Cup and Gordon West Cup titles at a sunny Ravenhill.

The Grosvenor seconds scored a superb 27-0 win over Coleraine in the Forster Cup final, while the Grosvenor first team battled their way to an 18-8 victory against the University of Ulster Coleraine in the Gordon West Cup decider.

Grosvenor returned to Kukri Qualifying League Section 3 this season and are currently second in the table.

Coach Andrew Gibson said: “We have a young side with an average age of only 22 and our fitness levels are excellent. We play an expansive style and have some serious pace in the backs.

“In the forwards we have a few Grosvenor school leavers from last year who have adapted to adult rugby admirably, notably Phil Hill, Mark Cartmill and Simon Fullerton.

“Our second fifteen have also done very well this season so we have real competition for every position which is always a nice situation for a coach to be in.”‘

Grosvenor have organised a ‘Cultural Exchange Visit’ to Holland next month where they will compete in the Den Bosch 10-a-side tournament near Eindhoven.
