Munster and London Irish have announced that the issue over Paul Warwick has been resolved to the satisfaction of all parties and that the Australian-born player will be remaining next season at Munster Rugby.
London Irish issued a statement in January confirming that they had signed Paul Warwick on a three-year deal, beginning next season.
But a contractual stand-off ensued between Munster and London Irish and with the reigning Heineken Cup champions able to offer the 27-year-old an improved contract in the interim, the clubs have now come to ‘an amicable resolution’.
Commenting on the matter, Warwick said: “I’m delighted the issure has been resolved and sincerely thank those involved for bringing the issue to an amicable resolution.”
Equally comfortable at full-back and out-half, the former Connacht ace has so far played 36 times for Munster and scored over 200 points.
He has shown himself to be a very able deputy for Ronan O’Gara in the number 10 jersey, none more so than when he almost inspired the province to a famous victory over the All Blacks last November.
Giving London Irish’s viewpoint, the club’s Chief Executive Graham Walpole said: “We accepted the personal reasons that Paul gave for changing his mind following the signing of his contract with London Irish, however it was important to us to take a strong stance on this issue and to arrive at a fair resolution.
“We have always enjoyed an excellent relationship with Munster Rugby and, with this matter now out of the way, we look forward to building further on this relationship now and in the future.”
