150 Not Out For Farley

Ireland ‘A’ lock Andrew Farley will on Saturday become only the second player ever to play 150 games for Connacht when he lines out against Northampton Saints in the European Challenge Cup.

The Australian-born Andrew Farley will reach the milestone in the European Challenge Cup quarter-final against Northampton at Franklin’s Gardens.

The 28-year-old will join Eric Elwood as the only player to chalk up a century-and-a-half of caps for the province.

‘Bruce’, as he is known, came to Connacht in 2003 from his native Australia and has since been capped at Ireland ‘A’ level.

And he reckons that there could be a double celebration on Saturday afternoon as Connacht strive to reach the quarter-finals of the European Challenge Cup for the third time in history.

“It is a one-off cup match and anything can happen. We are all looking forward to it,” he said.

Farley said it is a huge honour to reach the 150 cap milestone and puts a lot of it down to good fortune on the injury front.

“There are other players who’ve been here as long as I have but I’ve been fortunate to have stayed in the team the whole time and stay injury free,” he added.
