Sexton Suspended For Two Weeks

An Irish Rugby Football Union disciplinary hearing adjudicated on Wednesday evening on the citing complaint against Leinster player Jonathon Sexton from the Munster v Leinster Magners League game at Thomond Park last Saturday.

Leinster player Jonathan Sexton had been cited under law 10.4 (c) for an alleged kick on Munster player Lifeimi Mafi in the 70th minute of the game.

The hearing took place in Ravenhill, Belfast at 4.30pm today (Wednesday) and was heard under a disciplinary committee chaired by Hugh Logan. He was assisted by Stephen Hilditch and Neil Jackson.

Having studied the match footage and heard all available evidence, the disciplinary committee upheld the citing and that the player was guilty of an act of foul play.

The committee imposed a two-week suspension starting from today (Wednesday, April 8) up to and including Wednesday, April 22.

The player has the right to appeal the decision.

The suspension rules Sexton out of Leinster’s Heineken Cup quarter-final clash against Harlequins this coming Sunday and their Magners League trip to Edinburgh on Friday week (April 17).
