First Home Fixtures For Buccs Girls

Last Wednesday saw Buccaneers U18 host their first home fixture and what a way to start. They played host to Thomas A Stewart School and Ashbury College, two Canadian touring sides.

The first match against Thomas A Stewart was a tough contest with the girls putting in some big tackles. Buccs lost the game by 14-0.

The second match against Ashbury, who were considered the stronger of the two touring teams, was a real delight.

Buccs found their footing in the game straight away and scored the first try with Jessica McMickan making a great running line and then adding the conversion.

The score stayed 7-0 for most the game until the last ten minutes when Ashbury ran in two tries. The Buccs girls, it has to be said, played fantastic rugby and for a newly-formed team they really worked hard.

A special thanks to David Connolly and Matt Stone for refereeing on short notice and a special thank you to Marla Stuart Trainor for her wonderful catering skills.
