Connacht Volunteer Award For Marion

Marion Gilligan, the Honorary Secretary of West Offaly Lions RFC, was presented with the Connacht Volunteer Recognition Award in a pre-match ceremony before the recent Connacht v Scarlets Magners League match.

The IRFU Volunteer Award Programme seeks to acknowledge exceptional commitment and dedication by individuals to their club and reward them in an official capacity.

No one deserves this award more than Marion Gilligan who has worked tirelessly to promote and administer West Offaly Lions RFC.

In their growth from mini to adult rugby, the Ferbane club are so far unbeaten on the pitch and this is in large due to the fantastic support systems the players and coaches receive off the pitch, of which Marion is instrumental in managing.

On hand to present the award was Michael Grealish, the Connacht Branch President.

He said: “Marion is a fantastic volunteer and has been instrumental in building up the profile of the West Offaly Lions.

“She is more than deserving of this award and I’d like to wish her, and the club as a whole, every success in the future.”

Bernard Quigley, West Offaly Lions’ Chairman, then presented the Connacht President with a West Offaly Lions tie and thanked him, and the domestic staff of the Branch, for all their help and efforts in supporting the Lions during their assent into the adult rugby ranks.
